Old Wounds, New Platforms: A Chinese Canadian Examination on Digital Hate and Historical Harm
CCNC-SJ is proud to launch Old Wounds, New Platforms: A Chinese Canadian Examination on Digital Hate and Historical Harm, a new report written by Viola Tian that examines how anti-Asian racism, hate, and mis/disinformation circulate online and create real-world harm for Chinese and East Asian communities.
Drawing on history, policy, and lived community experience, the report considers the balance between freedom of expression and the need to address harmful online speech. It offers practical guidance on how responses to digital hate can protect community safety while upholding rights, and calls for informed, community-rooted approaches to accountability and change.
Community Conversations
Facing racism is challenging and affects our community in different ways. Follow the stories of Asian Canadian families and friends who share their experiences of racism and how they overcome it. This Community Conversations video series was created for and by Asian Canadian students with their families and presents the foundational learnings and concepts of racial literacy. It reflects different generations making a conscientious effort to break the pattern of silence when it comes to talking about race and racism, and their desire for a world of peace and justice.
