Stop the Spread…. of racism
— Chinese Canadian National Council for Social Justice releases limited addition hand sanitizers to Torontonians aimed to curb coronavirus-related xenophobia—
The Chinese Canadian National Council for Social Justice and The Hive, launch STOP THE SPREAD of racism, an awareness program aimed to stamp out coronavirus-related racism.
What: At Nathan Phillip’s Square on Tuesday March 3, hazmat suited Torontonians raise awareness for “stop the spread of racism” by handing out limited edition hand sanitizers with a twist. Instead of the regular warning label, you will find thought provoking messages like “Protects against toxic behavior”, “Works best with common sense”, and “Keep (intolerance) away from children.”
Why: The program was created as a result of the global rise of the coronavirus and the subsequent media attention leading to an alarming rise in a different kind of sickness—racism directed towards the Chinese Canadian community. The past weeks have seen a marked uptick in stories about people avoiding Asian-owned businesses and verbally attacking Asian people online or in public.

About STOP THE SPREAD of racism
A new public awareness campaign from the Chinese Canadian National Council for Social Justice is working to stamp out coronavirus-related xenophobia. The campaign features bottles of hand sanitizer bearing the message “Stop the Spread.” But while people might think the bottles are aimed at curbing coronavirus, they bear messaging aimed at getting them to consider their actions towards the Asian community. The bottles drive people to an informational website, http://stopthespread.ca/ (website will be live Tuesday, March 3).
